It was here, on this avenue that on 4 September 1944 Dorothy Borutti, coming out from Rosemary Cottage, greeted and kissed Captain Murdoch Alexander (Sandy) MacPherson, the first Canadian soldier to enter the city liberated from its occupiers.

This beautiful meeting was followed by their wedding at the Town Hall on 2 April 1945, followed by their departure for Canada.

In accordance with their wishes, their ashes have been laid to rest since 2005 in Le Touquet cemetery.

Stele erected on 4 September 2024 to mark the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of the town in the presence of Daniel FASQUELLE, Mayor of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, and the Town Council.

C’est à cet endroit, sur cette avenue, le 4 septembre 1944 que Dorothy Borutti, sortant de la villa Rosemary Cottage, accueillit et embrassa le capitaine Murdoch Alexander (Sandy) MacPherson, premier soldat canadien entrant dans la ville libérée de ses occupants.

Cette belle rencontre se prolongea par un mariage à l’hôtel de ville le 2 avril 1945, suivi d’un départ pour le Canada.
Selon leur volonté, leurs cendres reposent depuis 2005 au cimetière communal dans le caveau familial.
